There is great potential for cutting costs and increasing efficiency in the woodworking and wood processing industry, especially in the control and automation of the individual value-adding processes. The new, open Sinumerik MC CNC is exhibited on a machining center. This control is especially suitable for wood, glass and stone cutting machines, and special technologies in the machine tool industry. The latest generation of the proven Sinumerik NC kernel ensures optimum motion control for woodworking machines. At the same time, the automation performance is improved by the integrated Simatic S7-1500 fail-safe controller. Thanks to the Windows 10 operating system, machine manufacturers can even integrate customized software for controlling and operating woodworking machines. The integration of its own user interfaces and the extensive range of interfaces make the Sinumerik MC a universal, open control system which can be easily integrated into existing machine solutions. Another new feature is engineering through the TIA Portal which simplifies engineering processes and reduces the likelihood of errors, leading to a cut in commissioning times.

The Siemens trade show focuses on the benefits of digitalization which enable companies in the woodworking and wood processing industry to respond quickly to changing customer requirements and the increasing customization of products.

Siemens is exhibiting a digital twin of a tool changer on the booth. It demonstrates how a project can already be imaged as an exact virtual model in advance of its implementation. This allows the user to simulate the behavior of the workpiece and the machine, optimize performance, and apply the knowledge gained from previous design and production activities. As a result, the ever growing demands on productivity and flexibility can be met. The basis for this is to link the real and virtual worlds, for example through the MindSphere cloud-based, open IoT operating system, which helps machine manufacturers to analyze their machines during operations, and thus draw conclusions for the continuous optimization of processes.

Siemens is also exhibiting new HMI Comfort Panels, the Simatic IPC527G industrial PC, and the high-performance Sinamics S210 servo drive system coupled with Simotics S-1FK2 motors, in the current 400 V versions for a higher performance range up to seven kilowatts.
