Public Statement by SWISS KRONO AG on the Fire at the Menznau Factory

We would like to inform you that on 09.08.2023, around 03:30, a fire broke out in the recycling processing facility in the wood warehouse. After the internal alarm was sounded, the fire brigade was on site in no time with 240 emergency personnel and began extinguishing the fire. At this stage it can be said that the fire is under control and there is no danger to people or the surrounding buildings of the factory. Fortunately, no persons were injured in the large fire.

For safety reasons, the power supply for the wood yard was shut off and the particleboard and MDF production plant was shut down in a controlled manner. The current task is to secure the site of the fire and await clearance from the fire brigade and the internal managers. It is planned to start production gradually and resume within the next 24 to 48 hours. SWISS KRONO AG will then be fully ready to deliver again.

The wood processing plant affected by the fire is to be rebuilt as soon as possible to ensure the long-term processing of recycled wood. However, the loss of recycling processing does not affect the wood supply for production, which can be covered with fresh wood. However, due to the current standstill of the production facilities, the orders planned at the moment cannot be produced. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by today’s incident.

Note: Suppliers of round and recycled wood will be informed separately by our wood purchasing team by the end of this week.

We thank you for your understanding and will be happy to answer any questions you may have in this context.
